When I was 15 years old I remember figuring out that I would be 35 years old in the year 2000. From my youthful perspective, I lamented over the fact that by that time, I would be so old that my life would be over. Well, here I sit at 58 and laugh at myself for thinking 35 was old!
Ages and years mark time for us. There are some years we fondly look back upon, and others we can’t wait to wave goodbye to; but one thing is certain, we learn, grow and evolve from all of them. This time of year allows us to reflect where we have been and how far we have come. Perhaps acknowledging our wins, while we carefully consider what areas, people or situations in our life may not be serving our highest purpose anymore. For it is important to find ways to release these old outdated things so we can invite in better for our future.
Goals are like a compass that point us in a certain direction. We may eventually get where we are going through a detour, but at least we are headed the right way when we have set goals. Of course, goals are fluid and always changing since we are not the same person year to year, so updating our goals is essential.
End of Year Ritual Directions
I have an end of year ritual I do every December.
1.) I start by making a list of 10 things that I wish to let go of for the year. These are things that no longer serve me, or that I do not care to have in my life anymore. It might include people, situations or lessons that I feel I am ready to move away from. I wait for the next new moon, take the list outside with matches and a large ashtray and burn the list. As I watch the smoke rise, I bless and thank these things that have taught me, and then LET THEM GO!
2.) I also write an extensive list I save of what goals I wish to achieve during the year ahead. These can be organized by personal and professional, or just generally lumped together. I include all aspects of my life however, from my career, health, spiritual growth, and relationships with others.
I love the power of numerology, so I choose how many goals I will write depending upon what major area in my life I wish to place focus. If I want change, I may write 55 goals. If I hope to form a better connection to my guides and angels, I will do 44. This year I am focusing on better balance and meaningful relationships, so I wrote 22. It always depends on what major intention I wish to manifest. (In numerology each number carries a different vibration and meaning.)
Since I save these lists from year to year in a sacred place, before I begin my yearly lists, I read through all the ones from the past to not only commend myself for how I have grown, but to also better understand where I need improvement. Many of us never take the time to reflect during our busy lives, and this method is a gentle and loving opportunity to do this in a positive way.
This year, as we usher out 2023 and ring in 2024, perhaps it’s time to do so with supportive and loving intentions, so we can be better versions of ourselves in the years to come.
I wish all of you much love, wealth, health, and joy for 2024.
May your beautiful light shine forth, helping to brighten the way for others.
